In June 2023, the US SEC asked coinbase to delist all cryptocurrencies - several hundred at the time - except Bitcoin

The government body was making the demand on the basis that all except Bitcoin were unlisted security offerings and selling them was illegal

Coinbase didn't follow this order, and they subsequently were hit with a Lawsuit by the SEC

Since then, XRP has won a Lawsuit against the SEC on this exact issue- although the SEC is appealing the ruling

This makes it quite clear that bitcoin is in the eyes of the government different to crypto
